In collaboration with Carolina Performing Arts, the Office of International Affairs hosted dancer/choreographer and artistic director of the Khmer Arts Ensemble, Sophiline Cheam Shapiro at the FedEx Global Education Center. Shapiro provided an insider's view of her latest piece "Pamina Devi: A Cambodian Magic Flute," which was performed at Memorial Hall. Shapiro explained the elaborate movement language of Cambodian classical dance and how the themes of enlightenment change and transformation found in Mozart's opera "The Magic Flute" were revealed in her adaptation. Audience members were privileged to see and hear the brilliantly intricate movements of the dancers and sounds of the musical ensemble.
